Saltmarsh Wickmere harbour Book

Saltmarsh

The dining room

Twenty-eight covers, two sittings, one menu a night.

The dining room

We serve dinner Wednesday to Sunday at 18:45 and 20:30. There are twenty-eight seats and we usually fill them, so book the table when you book the room — residents do not get an automatic place.

How it works

Three courses, two choices at each, £52. The menu is written at four in the afternoon when we know what has been landed and what has come up from the garden at Fennick, so we cannot tell you in advance exactly what you will eat. We can tell you it will be about eighty per cent from within thirty miles.

If you cannot eat something

Tell us when you book and we will cook you something else. There is no separate menu and no surcharge; the kitchen simply cooks you a different dinner. This works for almost everything. It does not work well for very short notice on a Saturday.

Lunch

Saturday and Sunday only, twelve to two, and it is a different and much simpler thing: one pot of something, bread, cheese if you want it. Walk-ins are usually fine.

Wine

Forty-odd bottles, mostly from small growers, nothing over £70, and everything on the list is available by the glass because we would rather open a bottle and finish it ourselves than sell you something you are not sure about.

Reservations

We answer the telephone between eight and eight.

One of the four rooms is held back for people who ring rather than book online. If the calendar says we are full, it is still worth asking.
