The Loft
The whole top floor, under the original pulley beam, with the only bath in the building you can lie down in.
Two flights up and no lift, which we mention first because it matters. What you get for the stairs is the entire top floor: a room the width of the building, a window at each end, and the cast-iron hoist beam still bolted through the roof structure above the bed.
Waking up in it
East-facing, so in summer it gets light at about half four. There are blackout blinds and most people use them. In winter the sun comes up more or less into the far window and it is worth being awake for.
What is in it
A king bed, two chairs by the north window, a roll-top bath on the floorboards and a separate shower behind the chimney. No television. There is a radio, a kettle, and a shelf of books left by people who finished them here.
Reservations
We answer the telephone between eight and eight.
One of the four rooms is held back for people who ring rather than book online. If the calendar says we are full, it is still worth asking.
